What are the nail boards? Is this a new practice?

Sadhu nail boards work on principles of acupressure – a well-trusted practice with a long history coming from India over 2,000 thousand years ago, where similar devices used by yogis are called “sadhu boards” or “bed of nails.” In Chinese medicine, similar principles of stimulating energy points have been used for thousands of years in acupressure and reflexology. This is not just a way of meditation and hardening of the will, it is a healing mechanism that triggers regenerative processes in the body.

What are the benefits of the nail boards?

So what’s the use?

Standing on nails, you can “live” the emotions stuck in the body – cry, laugh, throw out anger. With the help of certain breathing techniques, you can learn to redirect attention, to go through pain. Such a provocation of pain through the feet teaches you to interact with negative feelings and not be afraid of them. During practice, you can get acquainted with pain and understand that there is nothing terrible in it.

The Sadhu board is a kind of stress-resistance simulator that teaches us to go through tension. Then this skill can be transferred to everyday life, calmly go through situations when we are tense, afraid, angry.

Plus, Sadhu nail board practices give a charge of vivacity due to the release of a large amount of oxytocin – the hormone of happiness.

Standing on nails a person works out acupuncture points associated with internal organs, improves blood circulation. Such a practice makes it possible to start restorative processes. It can be compared to an intense foot massage.

How long do you need to stand on nails?

To just recharge for the whole day, a minute in the morning will be enough to start. But for deeper processes, experiencing feelings, meeting your unconscious and a steady skill of relaxation in stressful situations, it will take from 10 to 40 minutes. Here a lot depends on where and how you do it. Ideally, do the practice accompanied by a teacher who will support and help you get through the pain. And then it will turn out to immediately stand for a long time – more than 20 minutes.

Are there any contraindications for using the Sadhu Board?

It's advised to avoid Sadhu board nail standing if you have:

Pregnancy

Oncological diseases

Fever

Epilepsy

Heart issues

Open foot wounds

Is it dangerous to stand on Sadhu board nails?

No, if you will follow safety rules:

- Choose a flat and stable surface for standing on nails sadhu board.

- Place yoga mat under sadhu board to avoid slipping and damaging the boards.

- Move smoothly and slowly during practice nails standing.

- For the first few times, use support to stand on and off the nails – chair, window sill, wall or your partner hands

- Distribute the weight evenly – make the first step in the middle of the board, then put the other foot on the other board

- Do not jump on nails.

- Keep Sadhu board out of the reach of children.

- Follow all safety rules for handling sharp objects

Which nail spacing is recommended for Sadhu board beginners?

For those starting, a Sadhu board with 0.32in (8mm) spacing is ideal

How frequently should I use the Sadhu Board?

It's up to your meditation needs and preferences. Some users stand on their Sadhu Board once a week, while others make it a daily practice.

Should I wear socks?

For your first few sessions, you can wear socks while you explore the practice and your body adjusts. Try to get to 1 min on boards and increase your time every day slowly. Once you feel ready you can practice barefoot. 

Can Sadhu board hurt my feet?

Your feet are safe. 

On the board, the nails are located at the same distance from each other, and when you stand on the board, the weight of the body is evenly distributed over the entire foot and you cannot damage your foot 

Your task is to put your foot in the middle of the Sadhu board and when you get off the board - first one foot, then the other

Who should not stand on the nails?

The practice is not recommended for people with current menstruation and pregnancy, heart problems, coagulation (circulation or clotting) issues, epilepsy, significant skin damage or skin inflammation, healing tattoos and wounds, neuropathy, cardiovascular conditions, thrombophlebitis, fever or other acute illness. I do not recommend that children use nail boards due to the sharpness of the spikes.

Will my height and weight affect experience on nails?

I find it’s the person's level of skin sensitivity that determines what they feel, not their weight. Start with beginner boards (8 mm).

I have no experience, I have never tried, can I come to class?

Of course, since nails are a practice that you need to try at least once in your life and my sessions are the perfect place for this - I create a safe and friendly atmosphere and support that will help you to have an amazing experience.

Will the Sadhu boards practices help me in decision making?

The Sadhu boards will bring to you the clarity you need to make the right decision for yourself.

Can the sadhu nails board cure any mental illness?

No, sadhu nails board are not meant to cure any kind of mental illness. They are instruments for your physical and spiritual well-being.

What should I wear to the class?

You'll need a comfortable sports uniform that doesn't restrict your movements, T-shirt and if you want a hoodie or sweater, if it suddenly gets cold, a bottle of water and a good mood. You can prepare an intention or a request for practice, or we will formulate it together

How long does the internship take?

The training lasts 2.5 – 3 hours.

How many people are in the group?

There are a maximum of 8 people in the Nailing classes, so that I pay attention to each one
